Highest frequency occurs between 20 and 30 years of age, especially among males. There is, however, another peak of incidence among elders due to falls.

Dorsolumbar injuries are directly related to work-related accidents.
Twenty percent of cases may result in neurological complications. These are more frequent in cervical-dorsal injuries than in lumbar ones.
